Sad Trees

I know it's been a hot summer around here without much rain. But some of the trees in the Shaw/Logan neighborhood have just withered away to death without any attention. Dead trees and trash on the sidewalks doesn't make for an uplifting neighborhood. Check out this tree I spotted on 11th Street.

looks like it started out as a poor planting job in the first place, but i shouldn't be diagnosing with just a photo, a la bill frist!

Tree boxes without trees or with damaged trees should be reported to 727-1000. Ranjit Babra, with DDOT's Urban Forestry Administration, is assigned to Ward 2. He and his team have been very responsive in all my experiences.

Please also email specific addresses to me. I like to keep tabs on these things.

And, please, if you live near newly planted trees, consider watering them regularly. New trees are most vulnerable in their first three years and need about 20 gallons of water per week during the growing season. Harsh, hot summers can be especially cruel to newly planted trees.
