Saving DC Trees

Did you know,

Sixty-four percent of the city’s largest trees died between 1973 and 1997.
That's from a July 5th article in the DC Examiner about the organization Casey Trees. Apparently,
The District’s tree-planting efforts stalled during those years as people moved to the suburbs and tax funds declined, said John Thomas, the arborist for the District’s urban forestry administration.

A lot of the maples in our neighborhood (10th and M St NW) are dieing. Does anyone know what the deal is?
