Introducing the Shaw Neighborhood Monthly Clean Up (updated!)

I'm happy to announce the kick-off of a neighborhood monthly clean up project. Myself, with the support of ANC2C02.org are launching this monthly project as a way to clean up hot spot areas in and around Shaw. This is planned to kick-off in August and will happen the second Saturday of every month.

The objective is to clean up targeted areas and create some long-term results in keeping areas clean and litter free. Plus, this is a great way to get out and meet others in the community and help clean up the environment.

Here are the details for the initial clean up. We'll target the 7th Street corridor from Rhode Island Ave. to New York Ave.

  • Saturday, August 11, 2007 (not the 4th)

  • 9:00 AM

  • Meet at the Watha Daniel Library and we'll disperse from there. Bring gloves, friends, and some water for yourself.

Plus, we'll be doing a frequent litter-picker card. Get your card stamped three times and get a free gift!

Also, check out the flyer and share with your friends. Design donated by my wife, SugarB Studio.

retracsemaj:

AWESOME, indeed!

I'm so glad you are doing this! please feel free to also post on the MVSNA blog & listserves.

I may be out of town that weekend, but if I'm in town, I'll definitely be there! This is a great idea.

kbb:

I will DEFINITELY be there! Way to go treebox!

Thanks for all the comments!

We've actually changed this to August 11 and then the second Saturday of every month - this seemed to work a bit better.

Also, if anyone has suggestions on places to clean up - please post your ideas. Some other ideas:
11th street, Kelsey Gardens Area, 9th street, schools in the area, skate park,....

The City Council just approved the ABC Board's proposal for an H Street, NE moratorium on single sales of alcohol this month.

This might benefit Shaw and your efforts as well.
