Adopt A Bus Stop

WMATA wants us to clean up their bus stops. Click here for more information.

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority is seeking volunteers and groups to adopt a bus stop or stops. Volunteers will have their names placed at the bus stop and will be able to assist the community by keeping the bus stops clean, accessible and free of debris.

They supply the trash bags, etc... and you have to keep it clean on a weekly basis. Not a bad idea to encourage community action. And they give you one of those snazzy vests.

Are we allowed to remove makeshift benches if we "adopt" the bus stop? Seriously if we are able to do so you just got customer! How do I sign up.

Great blog by the way and welcome.

I don't know what the exact rules are, but I bet they are limited. I applied for one on 11th street last week but have yet to hear back from WMATA. I guess they aren't in a rush.
